I’ve been working in advocacy for sexual violence survivors since I started in University and it was the first time that I started working with individual people who were brave enough to come forward and say that they had been assaulted or raped by someone else that are very small University and I helped them through that process so when I went to law school I started working with King County sexual assault Resource Center Court Watch program so we went and watched how judges handle these types of claims in the criminal setting and the ways that people are treated for coming forwards is the way the victims are treated and then the way that the defendants are treated as well that was when I decided that criminal justice was not going to be the way that I helped survivors and so I’ve always wanted to do this work on behalf of people who are brave enough to come forward and in the last few years there’s been a few updates from both the legislature and the courts that have made it easier for people who have experience sexual violence in their childhood to come forward with those claims and seek justice as adults when we started looking at the potential impact that that could have on people’s access to Justice and the types of people who had been injured in particularly the juvenile justice system that was when we decided as a firm that this was a practice that we wanted to take on.
