Myles Crandall

From teaching students around the world to serving as a public defender, Myles Crandall has always been motivated by his desire to help people.   

Prior to becoming an attorney, Myles pursued a career in education. After college, he taught English in Hong Kong and La Réunion, a  small island east of Madagascar. He tutored students in Los Angeles before joining  the Teach for America program, where he taught 8th-grade U.S. History in Denver.  He then taught at the Salt Lake Center for Science Education (SLCSE), where he  supported hundreds of students as they accessed college, including millions of dollars in scholarship offers. 

Myles loved teaching because of the transformation he was able to participate in and witness in young people’s lives. He stated, “I enjoyed the dynamic work of being a teacher: learning about students, making content relevant, partnering with families, and planning with my fellow teachers.” 

Following 10 years as a teacher, Myles was inspired to pursue a career as an  attorney to address injustices he saw in society. Becoming an attorney provides Myles with the opportunity to advocate on behalf of people who have been harmed or experienced trauma, and support clients to secure a remedy to help them heal  and thrive. 

Myles came to Bergman Oslund Udo Little after serving as Assistant Federal Public Defender in Miami, Florida, where he represented people accused of federal crimes.  He describes the best part of being a public defender as obtaining a good result with a client, enabling them to return to their family and community. 

Myles enjoys contributing to the experienced and caring team of attorneys and staff at BOUL, becoming an expert in complex areas of law, and helping clients understand their cases and legal options.  He considers it a privilege to learn about clients and their families, earning a place in a client’s system of support and trust. “I choose to do this work because I want to help people, and this process in turn helps me,” he said. 

 He earned his JD, summa cum laude, Litigation & Dispute Resolution Concentration, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was a member of the Miami Scholars Public Interest Program.  While attending law school, he also worked with the Innocence Clinic, helping to exonerate wrongfully convicted individuals in Florida.  He also holds a Master of Arts with Honors in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College. 

 Myles resides in Seattle with his wife, their daughter, and their labrador. In his free time, he enjoys exploring new places and playing tennis.
